Gilliam, John Arthur - 1986 Mr. John Arthur Gilliam died on June 23, 1986 at the age of 61 following a lengthy illness with cancer. Mr. Gilliam was a patient at Madison Memorial Hospital at the time of death. Mr. Gilliam was a service man for Missouri Natural Gas for many years. He and his wife lived in Fredericktown. Funeral services were held at First Christian Church today Thursday June 26) at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Hartenberger officiating. Burial was in Marcus Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Charles Umfleet, Charles Skaggs, Elmer Wulfert, Percy Brewington, Lindell Ward and Frank Takach. Mr. Gilliam was born on August 9, 1924 in Butler County, to Minerva Freer and George Stanton Gilliam, both deceased. He and Bonnie (Wright) Gilliam were married on June 3, 1946 in Clay County, Arkansas. Mrs. Gilliam survives. Other survivors include two sons, Gary Gilliam of Farmersberg, Ind., and Stan Gilliam of Farmington; a daughter Pamela Mattingly of Appleton, Wis. A brother, Warren Gilliam of Oregon; five sisters, Wilda Busham of Arkansas; Marie Carmon of Ill.; and Stella Keele, LaFern Slinkard, and Dorothy Brown, all of Missouri. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Riley Gilliam and Fred Gilliam; two infant sisters and an infant granddaughter, Megan Gilliam Marion Wright, father-in-law, and Rondal Mattingly, son-in-law. Surviving grandchildren, Susan and John Paul, Melissa and John B Gilliam, and Tammy and David Steffens, and Mark and Joe Mattingly. Mr. Gilliam was a member of the VFW Masons, Eagles, and the First Christian Church of Fredericktown.
