Hecht, Martin Christian Martin Christian Hecht, 91, of Fredericktown died Friday, may 22 at Madison Memorial Hospital. Mr. Hecht, U.S. Army, retired, was born April 30, 1890 in Madison County, Ill. to the late Herman and Mary (Sudbring) Hecht. He married the former Lydia Gerling December 29,1924 in Manhattan, Kan. She preceded him in death. Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Hecht of Fredericktown and Bethel Hoppas of Larned, Kan,; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Besides his parents and wife, others preceding Mr. Hecht in death include three brothers and a sister. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 26 at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Raymond Poppe officiating. Burial was in the Christian Cemetery under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home. Pallbearers were William Brewen, Noel Head, Norman Ludwig, Joe Newberry, Victor Reed and Hulit Upshaw. Mr. Hecht retired from the Army as a Master Sergeant. He first enlisted in Troop K Seventh Cavalry on October 29, 1915. For 18 months after World War I, he was an oil field "roughneck" in Texas but the Aemy called and Mr. Hecht re-enlisted to make his 30 year.
